Windshield Protection Film

Why choose Xpel Windshield Protection Film?

Windshield Protection Film (WPF) is a sacrificial layer of protection for your windshield. Many modern windshields include technical features and equipment such as ADAS and built in heating elements, making them much more expensive to replace than traditional windshields.

WPF protects your windshield from rock chips and cracks, as it absorbs the impact and leaves only a small imperfection in the film, rather than a large chip or crack in your glass. Once the film has a few too many imperfections, we simply replace the WPF, rather than an expensive windshield, saving you money.

WPF Care

To ensure your XPEL Windshield Film continues to provide optimal protection and clarity, follow these care and maintenance guidelines.

Your installation includes a complimentary XPEL WPF Restore to be applied at the 6-month mark for enhanced performance. Please contact us to schedule.

By following these guidelines and applying the XPEL WPF Restore at the 6-month mark, you can ensure the longevity and performance of your XPEL Windshield film, keeping your vehicle protected and looking its best.

  • Post-Installation: Avoid washing your vehicle for at least 48 hours to allow film to properly adhere and cure. XPEL also recommends purchasing and installing a new set of premium windshield wiper blades.

    • Hand Washing: We recommend hand washing your vehicle using XPEL Wash Solution or Foam Soap and a soft microfiber mitt. Rinse thoroughly with water.

    • Pressure Washing: Keep the nozzle at least 36 inches (1 meter) away from the film when using a pressure washer. Avoid spraying directly at the edges of the film to prevent lifting. We recommend using a 40-degree nozzle.

    • Avoid harsh chemicals: Do not use strong chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaning tools on the film, as these can damage the protective coating.

    • Drying: Always dry the vehicle with a clean, soft microfiber towel to avoid water spots. Avoid letting the vehicle air-dry in direct sunlight.

    • Keeping your windshield and wipers clean will increase the longevity of your film, as well as reduce the chance of scratches in the film

      • We strongly suggest keeping a bottle of detail spray / waterless wash and clean throw-away microfiber towels in your care to routinely clean off your windshield after contaminants have dried (while at work, in the store, etc..)

      • Spray your windshield with the solution and with your microfiber towel folded in fourths, gently wipe away contaminants then flip your towel to the dry side (or a second dry towel) to gently buff off the excess solution.

    • Bird Droppings & Bug Splatter: Remove contaminants like bird droppings and bug splatter as soon as possible to prevent staining. Use warm water and a pH neutral soap (XPEL Wash Solution or Foam Soap). In an emergency on-the-go you can apply XPEL SiO2 Waterless Wash to the affected area and wipe off with microfiber towel.

    • Tree Sap & Tar: For stubborn contaminants like tree sap and tar, use a 50/50 Water & Isopropyl Alcohol in a spray bottle. Spray the mixture directly onto microfiber towel and wipe the affected area.

    • Regular Cleaning: To maintain the clarity and appearance of the film, clean the film regularly with XPEL Wash Solution or Foam Soap. For an all-in-one solution, the XPEL TPU Windshield Protection Film Maintenance Kit (M1291, sold separately) includes XPEL Waterless Wash, Water-spot Remover, and Glass Cleaner.

    • Avoid Waxing: Do not apply waxes or polishes that contain dyes, abrasive compounds, or solvents directly onto the film

  • WPF Restore enhances the hydrophobic properties of the film, ensuring optimal performance and longevity.

We apply WPF Restore after we have installed the WPF on your windshield. We recommend bringing the vehicle back about every 6 months for us to apply another complimentary coat of WPF Restore and inspect your WPF.
